American Bulldog

A very distant cousin of the English or British Bulldog and more closely approximating the Pit Bull Terrier in build and look, the American Bulldog is not an accredited AKC pure breed. Considered somewhat rare and once verging on extinction, the American Bulldog is a working dog generally used for farming in livestock and barnyard protection, guarding and cartage. The American Bulldog was popularized in the southern US as a means of protecting livestock and farmland from feral or wild pigs.
