Bernese Mountain Dog

Originating of Switzerland and the Alps, the Bernese Mountain Dog was originally bred as a herding and farm dog, sometimes used to pull carts. The gentlest of giants, similar to its distant cousin the St. Bernard, today, the Bernese Mountain Dog is more likely to be employed as a therapy dog, in part due to its complacent, calm nature or as a search and rescue dog. Its formidable size makes the Bernese Mountain Dog not suitable for condo-living but a great, loyal and faithful family pet.
