Shar Pei

Possibly the teddy bear of dogs, originating of China and distinctively defined by its wrinkled, loose skin and blue-black tongue, the Chinese Shar Pei is an ancient and rare breed once used for hunting wild boar. The wrinkled loose skin of the Shar Pei helps to protect it against tusks and teeth. The Shar-pei was also once used for dog fighting. While not ideal for families with young children, the Shar Pei is often found in service as a therapy dog or as a service companion animal.
